At King & Spalding, we are a leading global law firm driven by a commitment to excellence, innovation, and the seamless delivery of legal services. Our success relies on harnessing cutting-edge technology and exceptional talent to meet the complex needs of clients in a fast-paced and dynamic legal landscape.

We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Partner Accounting team. In this role, you'll work closely with the Partner Accounting, Finance, Payroll, Tax, and Treasury teams, reporting directly to the Partner Accounting Manager. You'll be responsible for maintaining partner financial records, supporting partner compensation, distributions, and capital account administration, preparing partner-related reconciliations, analyses, and reporting, and ensuring accurate accounting across multiple jurisdictions.

Here's a closer look at what you'll do:

  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc journal entries related to partner compensation, distributions, draws, capital contributions, and partner benefit programs.
  • Coordinate recurring partner accounting close activities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze partner compensation, distribution, capital account, and related financial schedules.
  • Support the annual partner compensation process, including calculations, allocations, reporting, and validation of financial data.
  • Reconcile partner payroll, draws, and distributions to the general ledger.
  • Coordinate with Payroll and Tax teams on partner compensation reporting, tax compliance matters, tax documentation, and related support schedules.
  • Maintain accurate partner records and supporting documentation within financial systems.
  • Support internal and external audit requests related to partner accounting activities.
  • Research and resolve partner account discrepancies and respond to inquiries from partners and Firm leadership.
  • Partner with Finance, IT, and other business services teams to improve processes, enhance reporting capabilities, increase automation, and support system-related initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects related to partner accounting, compensation administration, and global finance operations.
  • Support global partner accounting activities, including coordination with international offices on partner account administration and reporting needs.

What we're looking for:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • You have 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in partnership accounting, professional services accounting, or law firm finance is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting partner compensation, capital accounts, or partner distributions is a plus.
  • You are detail-oriented, highly organized, and can manage sensitive partner financial information with discretion.
  • You are comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume professional services environment.
  • You're an analytical problem-solver who can identify trends, research variances, and resolve complex accounting issues.
  • You communicate effectively and can interact professionally with partners, executives, and business services personnel at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly advanced Excel functions including pivot tables, lookup functions, and data analysis tools, is expected.
  • You have experience working with financial and ERP systems.

The firm offers a generous total compensation package with bonuses and raises awarded in recognition of individual merit-based performance. All full-time Business Services employees may participate in King & Spalding's comprehensive benefit program, including health and wellness plan, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts and a health savings account, a 401(k) plan, profit sharing plan, and a substantial Paid Time Off (PTO) program.
