Overview - MUST REVIEW - NOT A REMOTE POSITION - OFFERING FULL-TIME OR CONTRACT FOR UP TO 1 YEAR. This position is best suited for an experienced medical AR professional who can independently research outstanding claims, determine the reason for nonpayment, take the appropriate action, and follow the account through resolution. Seeking an experienced Accounts Receivable Representative to join our billing team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of hands-on medical billing and insurance AR experience and be able to independently manage outstanding claims from initial follow-up through resolution. Athena Practice experience is REQUIRED. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and work assigned insurance and patient AR.
- Review aging reports and prioritize outstanding accounts.
- Follow up on unpaid, denied, rejected, and underpaid claims.
- Contact insurance companies and use payer portals to obtain claim status and resolve payment issues.
- Research and resolve claim denials, rejections, eligibility issues, COB, authorization issues, timely filing, coding/modifier issues, and other billing discrepancies.
- Submit corrected claims, reconsiderations, and appeals when appropriate.
- Review EOBs and ERAs to verify payments, adjustments, and patient responsibility.
- Identify and research underpayments, incorrect adjustments, and account discrepancies.
- Request and submit medical records or other documentation required for claim processing.
- Follow up on appeals and outstanding claims until resolution.
- Review patient balances and determine whether balances are correctly assigned to patient responsibility.
- Maintain detailed and accurate account notes and follow-up documentation.
- Identify recurring billing and denial issues and communicate them to management.
- Meet established AR follow-up, productivity, and collection goals.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient information. Required Qualifications and Skills
- 3+ years of medical billing and accounts receivable experience.
- Athena Practice experience – REQUIRED.
- Strong experience with insurance AR and claim follow-up.
- Experience working medical denials, rejections, appeals, and corrected claims.
- Knowledge of EOBs, ERAs, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, contractual adjustments, and patient responsibility.
- Experience working with commercial insurance, Medicare, and other health plans.
- Strong understanding of the medical revenue cycle.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced medical billing environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Candidates that pass initial in-person interview process will be required to do a "working interview" to access skill level and knowledge of Athena Practice and AR. Preferred
- Gastroenterology or specialty-practice billing experience. Job Types: Full-time, Contract
