Auditor (Performance)

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) is an independent office whose mission is to promote excellence, integrity, and accountability throughout the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In our dynamic environment, the OIG conducts investigations, audits, evaluations, and inspections to enhance program effectiveness and efficiency and to detect and prevent waste, fraud, and mismanagement in DHS programs and operations.

All applicants must meet the below Basic Requirement. In addition to meeting basic requirements applicants must meet the below specialized experience or the education substitution for each grade level as listed below. Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. GS-12: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience at this level includes:

• Analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of program operations and data summaries for inclusion in routine and special reports;
• Providing technical advice on program operations;
• Participating in discussions, meetings and giving formal briefings to provide information. GS-13: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience at this level includes:
• Analyzing and evaluating the effectiveness of program operations and preparing data summaries for inclusion in routine and special reports;
• Participating in discussions, meetings, and conference calls to provide information; and
• Presenting findings and technical advice to facilitate the understanding and acceptance of solutions and recommendations. NOTE: If you are selected for an interview, a writing exercise may be administered as part of the interview process.

All applicants must meet this requirement: Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting. OR Combination of education and

at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:

• A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or
• Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours. Individuals with degrees in Business, Information Technology, Emergency Management, Homeland Security Studies, Criminal Justice, and related degrees are strongly encouraged to apply. Must submit a copy of your college transcript (unofficial is acceptable) or a list of coursework with hours completed proof of Basic Requirement. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet Federal qualification requirements if you can show that your foreign education is comparable to education received in accredited educational institutions in the United States. For example, specific courses accepted for college-level credit by an accredited U.S. college or university, or foreign education evaluated by an organization recognized for accreditation by the Department of Education as education equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. college or university.
