Consumer Collections Paralegal, Bookkeeper

Our Atlanta-area law firm is seeking an experienced Consumer Collections Paralegal/Bookkeeper to support our growing consumer collection practice. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in consumer collection legal matters, account litigation, garnishment proceedings, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and thrives in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Enter, update, and maintain matter information in our collections-management database
• Draft and send demand letters
• Serve as a point of contact for clients, debtors, opposing counsel, and court personnel
• Draft pleadings, discovery responses, and other litigation documents
• Manage e-filing in state and magistrate courts
• Track and meet all critical deadlines, including case, judgment, and judgment-lien renewal deadlines
• Field debtor calls and carefully document all communications
• Post payments in accounting software and reconcile receipts
• Prepare disbursement documents and coordinate client payments
• Monitor debtor account status and resolve issues, including payment-plan delinquencies
• Support general office and administrative operations

Required Experience & Skills

• Proven experience in consumer collections, account litigation, and garnishment procedures
• Working knowledge of the FDCPA
• Sharp attention to detail and a talent for juggling competing deadlines
• Proficiency with collections-management systems and e-filing platforms
• Experience with accounting or bookkeeping software
• Polished written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced setting
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
• Experience with QuickBooks and JST CollectMax software strongly preferred
