Position Summary We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Fund Accountant to join our Finance & Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 2-3 years of accounting and/or finance experience who is interested in venture capital and investment management. The Fund Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting for our venture capital funds and management company, including maintenance of general ledgers, preparation of financial statements and calculations of net asset values (NAV). Working closely with the VP of Finance & Accounting and the Finance & Operations Manager, this full-time role offers broad exposure to private fund operations, including capital calls & distributions, investor reporting, portfolio valuations, investments, and financial controls. This is a hybrid role based in Chicago, IL, with a flexible mix of in-office and remote work. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual fund accounting processes.
- Review and reconcile capital calls, distributions, and investment activity.
- Support the quarterly valuation process, including collecting portfolio company financials, updating valuation models, preparing supporting documentation, and coordinating with the investment team and auditors.
- Prepare and maintain accounting schedules and supporting workpapers.
- Reconcile cash, investment balances, and general ledger accounts.
- Coordinate with third-party fund administrators to review financial statements and capital account reporting.
- Assist with quarterly and annual financial reporting for investors.
- Support audit and tax preparation processes by organizing requested documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of portfolio company investments and valuations.
- Help process accounts payable, expense allocations, and management company accounting.
- Assist with ad hoc financial analyses and special projects with the Operations Team. Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2-3 years of accounting experience (public accounting or fund accounting experience preferred).
- Strong understanding of Fund Accounting and NAV calculation for investment ot venture capital funds
- Strong understanding in valuing private companies across multiple stages of growth, applying appropriate valuation methodologies and exercising sound judgment in determining fair value.
- Solid foundational knowledge of finance, including understanding of investment structures and capital accounts
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical abilities, and commitment to accuracy and deadlines
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid office environment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a CPA firm, fund administrator, or investment firm.
- Progress toward CPA designation is a plus.
