KEH sells primarily through its own channels which include direct-to-consumer, by phone/chat, and through physical retail All items resold through its channels are sold as KEH Certified products. The company also has one of the largest repair operations in the sector and the only one with manufacturer authorization of any reseller of camera and related equipment.

Position Overview

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls. This role manages the day-to-day accounting functions, leads the financial close process, and supports strategic financial decision-making.Reporting to the CFO and leading a small accounting and finance team, the Controller owns the company’s numbers for a long-profitable and growing business and is highly hands-on, performing detailed accounting work directly while overseeing the team and the close.The right leader for this role is both strategic and hands-on who will develop and execute the strategies and leverage the resources/departments at the Company to assist in such.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial reporting and the close — the integrity, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the company’s financial statements and the monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
  • Accounting operations — the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions, and the policies and procedures that govern them.
  • Internal controls and compliance — a strong, documented control environment and compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies, including external audits and regulatory and tax filings.
  • Cash flow, FP&A, and treasury support — cash flow and liquidity, budgeting and forecasting, and meaningful FP&A analyses that inform financial strategy and decision-making.
  • The accounting and finance team — leading and developing a small team while remaining hands-on and bringing AI-driven leverage and productivity to the function Financial Reporting & Close
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting
  • Analyze financial results and provide insights to leadership Accounting Operations
  • Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
  • Maintain and improve accounting policies and procedures
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition and expense classification
  • Manage fixed assets, accruals, and reconciliations Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Establish, maintain, and document strong internal controls for the company
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies
  • Coordinate external audits and manage auditor relationships
  • Support regulatory and tax filings Cash Flow, FP&A & Treasury Support
  • Monitor cash flow and liquidity
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
  • Develop and perform meaningful FP&A analyses as key financial tools
  • Partner with leadership on financial strategy and decision-making Team Leadership
  • Lead and develop a small accounting and finance team of two, while remaining hands-on in the day-to-day work
  • Provide mentorship, training, and performance management
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Leverage AI in the accounting and finance areas to provide significant leverage and productivity
Qualifications

Required

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role (public + industry preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and significant experience with all aspects of financial reporting including closing processes, working with auditors, etc.
  • Experience with developing and scaling processes (within accounting and interdepartmental) in a growing company
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Hands-on operator comfortable both managing a small accounting/finance team and performing detailed accounting work directly Preferred
  • CPA (time at a national or major regional accounting firm preferred)
  • FP&A experience/interest
  • Experience in retail sector and/or with inventory intensive businesses
  • Comfort and experience using AI to drive processes and productivity
