A growing residential construction company is seeking a hands-on Controller with strong construction accounting expertise to lead the accounting department and supervise a team of five.

Manage all accounting operations, financial reporting, job costing, subcontractor accounting, budgeting, and financial controls for residential construction projects.

The Controller will oversee all financial and accounting functions for a growing residential construction organization. This individual will provide leadership to a team of five while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting operations. The ideal candidate will bring extensive residential construction accounting experience, strong job costing capabilities, and expertise managing subcontractor financial processes.

● Lead, mentor, and develop a team of five accounting professionals.● Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and close processes.● Manage all aspects of residential construction accounting, including WIP reporting and revenue recognition.● Maintain accurate job costing for custom homes, production homes, renovations, and community developments.● Monitor project profitability and provide financial analysis to leadership.● Manage subcontractor accounting, including contracts, retainage, lien waivers, insurance compliance, and payment processing.● Oversee cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and banking relationships.● Establish and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.● Partner with construction operations teams to improve financial performance and project outcomes.● Coordinate audits, tax reporting, and relationships with external financial partners.● Drive process improvements and maximize accounting system efficiencies.

● Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.● 7+ years of accounting experience within residential construction, homebuilding, or related construction environments.● Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or Senior Construction Accountant experience preferred.● Strong expertise in job costing and project-based accounting.● Extensive experience managing subcontractor accounting and compliance requirements.● Proven experience supervising accounting staff.● Knowledge of WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and residential construction financial reporting.● Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.● CPA designation is a plus but not required.● Experience with construction accounting software and ERP systems preferred.
