Controller - Residential Construction

• Residential Construction at Staff Financial Group

As Controller, you'll lead the full accounting function for a growing residential construction operation in Atlanta. You'll own the monthly close, manage cash flow across multiple active projects, and deliver the financial insights leadership needs to make smart decisions on land acquisition, pricing, and profitability. This is a hands-on role where you'll build systems, mentor a small team, and have direct impact on how the business scales.

• Close the books each month and produce accurate financial statements within five business days
• Manage job costing across all active residential projects, tracking budgets vs. actuals and flagging variances early
• Oversee accounts payable, payroll, and vendor relationships to keep projects moving without cash flow bottlenecks
• Build and maintain financial models for new developments, including land acquisition analysis and pro forma projections
• Lead annual budgeting and quarterly forecasts in partnership with the executive team
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax filings, and any lender or investor reporting requirements

• You have 5+ years of accounting experience with at least 2 years in a controller or senior accounting manager role
• You've worked in construction, real estate development, or a project-based business where job costing and WIP accounting are critical
• You can own a full-cycle close independently and have experience managing at least one direct report
• You're proficient in accounting software and Excel, and comfortable building models or reports from scratch
• You have a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA is a strong plus

• Experience with construction-specific ERP systems or project management software
• Background in residential homebuilding or land development
• Familiarity with percentage-of-completion accounting methods

• Compensation range of $140,000 – $180,000 based on experience
• Based in Atlanta with flexibility for occasional remote work
• Direct partnership with leadership and clear visibility into company strategy and growth
